I'm interested to find out if Swix fibertex has the same properties a
3M scotchbrite. Has anyone had success using scotchbrite instead o
fibertex? If so, what color scotchbrite matches the course & sof
fibertex pads? Thanks for any advice

At the risk of starting a war, I'll answer - they are the same, at
least the white pad.

Several years ago, I bought some Swix Fibertex and it clearly had the
3M logo and a number on it. I researched it with the help of a local
distributor and bought a case of the white pads. 3M shows a few more
grades in their line in addition to the green, white and brown pads
I've seen. Some of these pads have abrasive granules in them - steer
clear of them! The stock pads are a different size than the Swix
stuff, but they are long enough for me to cut a trapezoidal sized piece
to fit on my Red Creek / Toko velcro roto-brush.

I'll look at the box tonite & post up the numbers and other info if I
can find my notes.

3M Sctch-Brite pad # 7445B is the white pad marketed by Swix as the
softest Fibertex. It is available as a case of 50 (?) 6" x 9" pads.
My note on the box is that the Swix grey pad is the 3M Sctch-Brite pad
# 7447. I do not recall what the green pad was, but the side of the
box shows a complete chart w/ 3M stock numbers.

Hope this helps -

In my old 3-packs (at least two of which were white), Swix used the
designations 266 for medium and 268 for fine (soft). Do you have the
3M equivalent for the 266? thanks,

Gene

A few people in the group (including Zachary Caldwell if I remember)
have a good opinion of the Jenex Omni-Prep pad.

Rob Bradley reported that it is also from 3M but different from the
Swix ones.
(Jenex being located very close to 3M).

I still just can't believe that a small company would get better
product from 3M than Swix.

Looking in the New Moon catalog, Swix's three-pack includes a hard
(265, grey), a soft (266, white) and a Final Touch (268, white).
Following this thread, it's not clear which of the latter two 3M #7445B
refers to.

Just for $hits and grins (and because I hope to stop buy the local
refinishing store and buy some in bulk), I checked the 3m Website.
They show only 1 white pad, the 7445 (7445 and 7445B differ only in the
size of the pad as far as I can tell).

I am also curious what the two different white pads tha swix offers
are, since 3m doesn't show them.

The 3m site shows the following, with steel wool equivalents, from
finest to coarsest:

7445 - white - "light duty" (no steel wool equivalent)
7745 - gold - 0000
7448 - gray - 00
7447 - maroon - 1
8447 - maroon - 2
7446 - gray - 3
7440 - tan - 4

Note that the finest gray pad is 7448, not 7447, according to the site..

I agree - I looked at the site also and think the info and the stock
#'s I have are dated.
Given this, I can't answer Gene's question accurately.
